What it was
The last working temple of the old religion. The final dated hieroglyphic inscription was carved here in 394 CE and the last demotic one in 452 CE, long after Egypt had officially become Christian, and the temple was closed by imperial order in the sixth century.

Moved stone by stone to a neighbouring island in the 1970s to save it from the reservoir behind the Aswan High Dam.
