Atef crown

What it actually depicts

The white crown of Upper Egypt with a tall ostrich plume on each side, often with a sun disc and ram's horns.

What it meant

The specific authority of Osiris, and by extension of the king in his Osirian role.

Where you see it

On Osiris in almost every depiction. On the king in funerary contexts.

What gets said that is wrong

Confused with the plain white crown, which it is built from. The feathers are what makes it Osirian, and their presence dates and places a figure quickly.
