How it changed

Rose with Amun and Thebes, absorbing older Theban goddesses as she went. Her name is simply the word for mother, written with the vulture sign. Her temple precinct at Karnak held hundreds of black granite statues of the lioness Sekhmet, one for each day, which is the clearest surviving evidence of how thoroughly separate goddesses could be treated as aspects of the same power.
