What it was
The great temple of Hathor, and the site of the New Year festival in which her statue was carried to the roof to be united with the sun's rays. The Dendera zodiac, now in the Louvre, came from a ceiling chapel here.

One of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, with its painted ceiling cleaned in recent decades and the colour genuinely intact.
