The Eye of Ra
What it actually depicts
Often drawn identically to the wedjat, and often as a goddess: a lioness, a cobra, or a woman with a sun disc.
What it meant
The sun's active, outgoing, destructive power, personified as a female counterpart who is sent out to act.
Where you see it
As the uraeus on the crown. In the Destruction of Mankind. In every text where a goddess is described as the daughter of Ra.
What gets said that is wrong
Constantly conflated with the Eye of Horus because the two are drawn the same way. They are different ideas: the wedjat is a wound healed, the Eye of Ra is a weapon dispatched. The Eye of Ra is also a role rather than a person, filled at different times by Hathor, Sekhmet, Tefnut, Bastet, Wadjet and Mut.
